A Jane Schoenbrun summer time is on the horizon. The auteur behind “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and “I Saw the TV Glow” is returning with their third characteristic film, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” a love letter to slasher franchises with limitless sequels that seems to be stuffed with the themes which have outlined Schoenbrun’s total profession.
Gillian Anderson and Hannah Einbinder star within the movie, which tells the story of a torrid romance between a filmmaker tasked with resurrecting a drained horror franchise and its reclusive star. Schoenbrun has beforehand described the movie because the form of film they’d have found within the ignored sections of a video retailer of their youth.
“I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic:’ an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store,” they stated in a press release saying the undertaking. “I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”
An official synopsis for the movie reads: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
Fans of Schoenbrun’s distinct fashion shouldn’t have any scarcity of initiatives to feast upon within the close to future. Their debut novel, “Public Access Afterworld,” can be revealed this fall by Random House imprint Hogarth Books. They’ll even be making their TV debut on the Netflix series “Black Hole,” an adaptation of Charles Burns’ cult comedian ebook collection of the identical title.
