“Something from the Upside Down must have survived last year,” Dustin says in a new teaser for the upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tale From ’85. The project comes from showrunner Eric Robles (Glitch Techs, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy) and Stranger Things co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
The sneak peek, which you can watch above, previews the strange new creatures roaming around Hawkins. “It’s like Hawkins Lab science meets Upside Down matter,” Robles tells Tudum. “When you put them together, those are the kinds of creatures we have in our world.”
Plus, we get our first glimpse of Steve Harrington, voiced by Jeremy Jordan (Supergirl, Hazbin Hotel) in the series.
Launching April 23, Tales From ’85 follows Eleven (Brooklyn Davey Norstedt), Mike (Luca Diaz), Will (Benjamin Plessala), Dustin (Braxton Quinney), Lucas (Elisha “EJ” Williams), and Max (In Your Dreams’s Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) during the winter of 1985. With the gate to the Upside Down closed, our heroes have returned to a normal routine of Dungeons & Dragons and snowball fights.

“But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened,” the synopsis reads. “Could it be from the Upside Down? From the depths of Hawkins Lab? Or from somewhere else entirely? Our heroes must race to solve this mystery and save Hawkins in this untold story set in the Stranger Things universe.”
Additional voice cast includes Brett Gipson as Hopper and Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips in yet-to-be-revealed roles.
Robles also executive produces the series via Flying Bark Productions, along with the Duffer Brothers and Hilary Leavitt via Upside Down Pictures, Shawn Levy via 21 Laps, and Dan Cohen.
