Oscars 2026: Major Visual Effects and Costume Design wins for Kiwi artists

New Zealand creatives have dominated two of the most important classes on this 12 months’s Academy Awards.

Both Kiwi costume designer Kate Hawley and the group from Wellington’s Wētā FX have gained of their respective classes – Costuming and Visual Effects.

Hawley has snagged one of many early wins on the 98th Academy Awards for her work on monster film Frankenstein.

Hawley beforehand gained the Bafta weeks earlier, and this was her first nomination and win for an Academy Award.
