Lamine Yamal strikes the woodwork, misses first penalty for Barca

After successfully converting seven penalties for FC Barcelona, boasting a 100% record, Lamine Yamal missed his first spot-kick for the Blaugrana on his eighth attempt. He did so during the ‘cule’ side’s visit to Montilivi, in the closing stages of the first half against Girona.

In the 46th minute, Dani Olmo chased down a ball inside the box, showing quick thinking as he nudged it past Daley Blind. The Dutchman then trod squarely on his boot. Referee Soto Grado had no hesitation, immediately pointing to the spot.

Lamine Yamal stepped up to take the shot, but the Blaugrana ’10’ failed to convert. The Spain international aimed his shot so precisely towards the left side of the goal that the ball struck the post flush.

This marked the player’s first penalty miss while wearing the FC Barcelona first-team shirt. It is worth noting that the attacker had previously missed a spot-kick for the Spain national team, though that was during a penalty shootout against the Netherlands in the 2025 Nations League quarter-finals, not in open play.
