Kosovo President dissolves Parliament, calls snap election after failed presidential vote

President Vjosa Osmani on ​Friday (March 6, 2026) dissolved Parliament and known as ‌snap elections, the third ​in simply over a ⁠yr, a day after lawmakers did not elect ‌a brand new head of state inside the ‌constitutional deadline. The 120-seat ‌Parliament ⁠had till midnight ⁠on Thursday (March 5, 2026) to decide on a President, however Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s ​ruling Vetevendosje celebration ‌was unable to safe the required quorum or rally opposition lawmakers behind ‌its nominee, Foreign ​Minister Glauk Konjufca.

“A parliament that cannot elect ⁠a president cannot continue indefinitely to drag out the ‌process as is being attempted.”

The opposition events have requested for a consensual candidate, however Mr. Kurti has nominated his ‌Foreign Minister, Glauk Konjufca.

Kosovo already ​held a snap election on December 28 ⁠after failing to kind a ⁠authorities following the February 2025 ballot.
