Kolkata knight Riders (KKR) have a lot to worry about ahead of IPL 2026. First, they were forced to release Mustafizur Rahman. Matheesha Pathirana sustained a hamstring injury during the AUS vs SL, T20 World Cup 2026 game. But their biggest worry would be an out of form Cameron Green. The Australian all-rounder, who missed IPL 2025 due to an injury, was bagged by the IPL 2024 champions for a whooping Rs 25.20 crore at the mega auction. But will he be able to justify the hefty price tag, given his woeful form?
KKR sweat over an out of form Green
In the three T20 World Cup 2026 games that he has played so far, Green has registered scores of 21, 0 and 3. With the ball, he has been used the least by Australia and so far picked up just 1 wicket while having conceded 6 runs against Zimbabwe. His performances prior to the T20 WC in the series against Pakistan was also sub-par, where he registered scores of 36, 35 and 22 and conceded 53 runs while having picked up just one wicket. In the game against Sri Lanka on Monday, he managed to last just for 7 deliveries and scored just 3 runs before he was sent packing.
Green has a decent record in T20Is, with 638 runs to his name from 27 matches and averages around 30 with the bat. With the ball, he has just 14 wickets so far.
In 2023, the Mumbai Indians (MI) paid INR 17.50 crore for Green, and he delivered his best-ever IPL season. He averaged over 50 and struck at over 160. The next year, he was traded to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and didn’t have the same results. It remains to be seen how Green, worth Rs 25.20 crore, performs for KKR in IPL 2026.
