Goodwin London co-chair and Private Equity partner Gemma Roberts has been recognized as one of The Lawyer’s Hot 100 for 2023. The Lawyer’s annual Hot 100 list profiles the most prominent lawyers across the UK who have stood out for their contributions to their organization and the legal industry over the past year.
The Lawyer cited Robert’s lead role in the firm’s “astronomical rate” of growth in London. This growth includes a dramatic rise in revenues, a wave of new partner hires, and the expansion of several of the firm’s market-leading practice areas into the UK.
Roberts was also praised for her work as a “keen dealmaker.” In particular, The Lawyer highlighted her representing cloud networking firm GTT Communications on the $2.15 billion sale of its global infrastructure business to I Squared Capital, and advising the management team of Forterro, the leading pan-European software services provider, on its €1 billion sale to Swiss investment management firm Partners Group.
Roberts specializes in representing private equity sponsors and private companies in leveraged buyouts, growth equity investments, mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and joint ventures. She has extensive experience with cross-border transactions, complex carve-outs and representing senior executives in corporate transactions as well as undertaking corporate and commercial advisory work for a broad range of corporate clients and private equity portfolio companies.
An advocate for the advancement of women at the firm and the profession, Roberts is a member of the London Council of Women@Goodwin, and founded and leads The Female Formula, a professional network bringing together women in the private equity and venture capital space in the UK. Roberts has previously been named the UK Lawyer of the Year by The Deal, and a Private Equity Rising Star by Legal Week and Law360.
