Congress Lok Sabha MP from Saharanpur Imran Masood on Tuesday (March 3, 2026) met Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, the India-based consultant of Iran’s Supreme Leader, the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to supply his condolences following Khamenei’s passing.

Mr. Masood described the loss of life of the Iranian chief as a “sad event” and personally conveyed his sympathies throughout the assembly.
“I had gone there to give my condolences on the death of their supreme leader. It was Iran which has stood with us in testing times. India and Iran share historical relations which are centuries old. The world has lost a courageous leader. History will remember him as a valiant figure, one who, despite facing numerous limitations, endeavoured to develop his nation. The passing of such an individual is undoubtedly a profound loss. I was told that the late Supreme Leader knew more about India than many other educated and capable people,” he stated.
“He was an exceptionally knowledgeable and competent individual who had a profound understanding of India,” advised Mr. Masood advised The Hindu.
