The Union Government has revoked the detention of environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk underneath the National Security Act (NSA), stating that the choice was taken in an effort to restore peace and create an environment conducive to dialogue in Ladakh.
In a press release, the federal government stated Wangchuk was detained on September 26, 2025, underneath the NSA following a severe law-and-order scenario in Leh on September 24, 2025. The detention order had been issued by the District Magistrate, Leh, with a view to sustaining public order within the area.
