Sri Lanka was handed a major blow to its T20 World Cup 2026 campaign after Matheesha Pathirana went off the field due to a hamstring injury during the side’s match against Australia in Kandy on Monday.
Bowling his first over, the third of the innings, Pathirana pulled up during his follow through holding his left hamstring.
After a brief check by the team physio, the pace spearhead hobbled off the field. Captain Dasun Shanaka bowled the remaining two balls of the over.
Sri Lanka has won both its games so far, against Ireland and Oman, and will hope Pathirana avoids a major injury scare as it gears up for the Super Eight round.
