O. Panneerselvam: Friendless in Dravidian politics
Three-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and former coordinator of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), O. Panneerselvam, may scarcely have imagined, even on the time of his expulsion from the celebration in July 2022, that he would at some point go to the residence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and interact with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president twice in 12 hours.
Mr. Panneerselvam, extensively often called OPS, remains to be thought of a persona non grata, so far as the AIADMK normal secretary, Edappadi Ok. Palaniswami, is worried. As for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a celebration which Mr. Panneerselvam and his son had assiduously cultivated after Jayalalithaa’s dying in December 2016, the “spell of love” in the direction of the septuagenarian doesn’t seem to exist any extra. It has been someday since Mr. Panneerselvam met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah.
As he appears to have exhausted the “goodwill of his benefactors”, together with Mr. Modi, Mr. Panneerselvam, a survivor of many trials, is now on the mercy of Mr. Stalin to maintain himself and his loyalists afloat. The conventional supporters of the AIADMK might not prefer it, however for Mr. Panneerselvam, it’s a matter of life and dying in electoral politics.
