Cedar Rapids police offer free Uber vouchers for Super Bowl weekend

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Police Department will have a heightened presence this weekend during Super Bowl celebrations as the city prepares for Super Bowl 60.

The department is coming off a year of zero traffic fatalities and said having a larger presence during large events and holidays can help keep people safe.

CRPD plans to have more officers on the roads as people go to Super Bowl parties. The department is also offering a free $10 Uber voucher for people to use to get home from their celebrations.

“Well it just gives an individual another way of getting home safely if they’ve been drinking. They don’t have to worry about getting in a car, they can apply for one of the vouchers, get their uber ride home and they get home safe and they make sure others get home safe too. Because they’re not endangering anybody if they make that poor decision,” said Sgt. Graham Campshure of the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
